Methane in Mid- and High Northern Latitudes. Research 2025.
Kiselev A. A. Proceedings of MGO. 2026. V. 621. P. 57–185.
This paper presents a review of investigations published in 2025 devoted to the methanosphere at mid- and high latitudes in the Northern Hemisphere, specifically on refinements to the magnitude of global and regional natural and anthropogenic sources, obtained through satellite and ground-based monitoring, as well
as modeling. It also examines studies examining various aspects of methanospheric formation, estimates of sectoral anthropogenic methane emissions, and the climate system's response to increasing atmospheric methane levels. Particular attention
is paid to processes occurring in the 60–90° N latitude belt. Separate consideration is given to studies characterizing research areas conducted in countries within the region (Russia, Northern Europe, China, the United States, and Canada).
Keywords: methane, natural sources of methane, methane concentration, wetlands, satellite monitoring, mid and high northern latitudes.
