Comparative analysis of the dynamic characteristics of six powerful hail cells on August 1, 2020 in the North Caucasus

Abstract:

Despite the presence of various hail protection systems, the damage it causes to agriculture and infrastructure remains significant. During the day of August 1, 2020, six powerful hailstorm cells were successively formed and developed, of which five reached very high intensity (category IV according to the classification adopted in the technology of active influence on hail), and one — high (category III). The study of the radar structure and dynamics of the development of these cells is of considerable interest. The uniqueness of this case is that all six clouds formed on the same day, under similar weather conditions and in a relatively small area, which allows for a comparative analysis of their behavior in order to identify common patterns and differences. The work provides a detailed analysis of the radar characteristics of hail cells, determines and compares their dynamic parameters: direction and speed of movement, distance traveled and lifetime.
